Homework: the great unequal force

The debate over assigning homework is a contentious one with arguments on either side. Who is missing from this equation? The view of students, in my opinion.

The Pandemic has changed our learning model in several ways – hybrid, virtual and everything in between depending on the district. As we return to in-person learning (for the most part), we need to honor the time students spend with their families.  Reflecting on strategies used in the classroom to complete tasks is well worth the time.  Kids and their caregivers are well deserving of evening and weekend time without the pressure of school assignments.

One thing we learned more than others during the pandemic: homes are not equal.  Public education is supposed to be the great equalizer.  We need to maximize time with students in the classroom and respect time for jobs, sports and families.  It needs to be the new normal.
